GRADUATION INFORMATION 2013
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you on your academic success to date and wish you well in your final year of your secondary education. This letter has been prepared to assist you with important dates and information for a successful year. Remember, you cannot achieve a secondary school diploma without completing 40 hours of community service. Assumption has a long and esteemed history that includes many traditional graduation awards and bursaries. I thank the graduation committee for their continued hard work. Their efforts are much appreciated. I look forward to celebrating the academic achievements of our senior students with you this June 26th, 2013.
Who is eligible to participate in the Graduation Ceremony:
Students must meet the requirements of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma. If you find that you might be in a credit deficit, you must meet with your Guidance Counsellor immediately. You must also have completed the Literacy Requirement and 40 hours of community service. Your legal name will appear on your diploma. Please check the Potential Grad list posted inside the Guidance office to ensure that your legal name is spelled correctly. Students are permitted to participate in the Graduation ceremony only once, and they must have a graduation cap and gown, which will be supplied.
Grad rings are not ordered through the school. The representative from Art Carved Class Rings by First Recognition will be at the school in the Spring to accept the $50.00 down payment for the ring order. In order to attend the Prom, which will be held Saturday, May 25th at St. Angela’s Hall, you must clear all outstanding debts with the school, such as activity fees, graduation fees, textbooks or sports uniforms. You MUST be in attendance all day (four periods) on the Friday prior to Prom. IMPORTANT*****Community Service Hours must be completed and submitted to the Guidance Office*** before you can purchase Prom tickets.
The Graduation fee of $60.00 is due March 25th, 2013. This fee covers the expenses of the cap and gown rental, the hall rental, costs for the graduation booklet and the invitations as well as the miscellaneous expenses to host the event. It also includes a souvenir cap (standard size) with a purple and white tassel. Caps and gowns will only be ordered for those who have made their payment in full. Should there be circumstances hindering the graduation fee payment, please speak to your Guidance Counsellor before the due date. THE GRADUATION FEE IS $90.00 AFTER MARCH 25th, 2013.
Graduation Caps and Gowns
Once the order is placed we cannot amend it. To ensure that you have a gown reserved, you must submit the completed “Graduation Application” form with the fee of $60.00 to the Guidance Office by March 25th.
All graduates will wear a purple gown with proper shoes and attire underneath. Graduation invitations will be available in the Guidance office in early June. Students will receive 4 tickets for guests. The graduate will not be required to have a ticket.
Details regarding Assumption Graduation Awards can be found on the school website www.wecdsb.on.ca/101. Click “Guidance”. You can then proceed to “Graduation Awards”.
Note: You are eligible to apply for these awards only once during the year you qualify to graduate. The applications will be accepted following a meeting with all potential graduates at the end of March.
Ontario Student Assistance Program – OSAP Financial Aid
At the beginning of May there will be a presentation on OSAP and Student Financial Planning. Please make an appointment with your Guidance Counsellor for information on the OSAP application process, if needed.
Graduation Day – June 26, 2013
All outstanding debts to the school must be resolved before you pick up your gown, including graduation fees, outstanding textbooks and athletic uniforms. You must pick up your cap and gown in the school cafeteria between 12:30 pm and 1:15 pm. You must have a gown to participate in the graduation. Graduates will assemble at Assumption Church, 350 Huron Church Road, at 1:30 pm for the Graduation Mass of Thanksgiving. When Mass is finished, you will have an opportunity to take pictures. You will also have time to return home and have something to eat. The ceremony does not include a meal.
The graduates will assemble at the Fogolar Furlan Club at 6:15 sharp for the procession. You will be asked to assemble alphabetically for the procession. Commencement Exercises begin at 7:00 pm SHARP. Your guests will require their invitation in order to be seated.
After the Graduation Ceremony
Again you will have an opportunity to take pictures and then you must return your gown in good condition before you leave. A station will be set up at the hall for the returns. The school will not release any information/marks until the gown is returned. The replacement cost is $80.00. You may keep your souvenir cap and tassel.

For the very first time, the Assumption Purple Raiders are participating in the "FIRST Robotics International Competition".
Starting January 7, 2013, thirty students have been busy designing, building and programming a robot during a 6-week period. Our robot will be sent to Mississauga for the global competition on March 28, 29, and 30th.

Students Get A ‘March Price Break’ On The Bus
WINDSOR, ONTARIO – Elementary, secondary, and post-secondary students are getting a price break again this year, thanks to Transit Windsor. During March Break (March 10– 16, 2013), students will pay a buck each way instead of the regular cash fare of $2.50. This applies to all city buses, but excludes the tunnel bus and special event services.
Students must show a valid student card, when paying their fare.
Transit Windsor continues to increase public awareness on the importance of transit. A single bus can eliminate up to 50 single occupancy vehicles. Transit keeps our cities moving at the lowest possible cost; otherwise, we would need to build more roads than taxpayers or the environment could support. Building public transit is vital to ‘smart growth’ strategies that help our cities reduce costs and undesirable impacts of urban sprawl. Educating our youth to these benefits will go a long way to meet these objectives.
