W.E.C.S.S.A.A. Basketball Playoff Results

The Junior Boys beat the General Amherst Generals last night in quarterfinal play 52-35, with Rami Majeed leading scorers with 13 points, to book a date this Friday, Feb 20 against Cardinal Carter in the semi-finals.

Attention basketball fans - last night your senior boys basketball team defeated Belle River by a score of 59-40 in quarter-final action.  The boys now face Amherst in our gym on Friday after school at 3:30 pm.  To rally the Raider sports fan-base around the boys there is a short pep rally during 4th period prior to the game.  In addition, for just $2 you gain entry into the game after school and you also get a dress-down day on Friday.  Let's pack the gym and support our graduating players in their last game at Assumption.

W.E.C.S.S.A.A. Girls Volleyball Playoff Results

Assumption 1 Kingsville 3

The Sr. Girls Volleyball season came to an end last night.  The girls played their hearts out and even took a game from the Kingsville team, unfortunately came up short 3 games to 1.   The girls fought hard and played well.  Anna Sawicki, our team Captain has stepped up time and time again and her leadership and control on and off the court has certainly made a difference throughout the season.  Katie Schwab executed well, in one of her strongest games both in ability and vocally, to keep the girls positive and playing strong.  Donatella DeMarco impressed so many.  As a first time ever volleyball player, Donnatella proved to be the most consistent server on the team with much improved play at the net.  Claudia, Carly, Virigina, Jillian, and Serena contributed to some pretty exciting plays last night.   The coaches are very proud of you.  We also say goodbye to our Seniors, Anna Sawicki, Victoria Cope, Carly Malenfant, Donnetalla Demarco, Claudia Pacoraro, and Serena Valore.  We wish you all the best as you move forward in athletics and academics.
A very special thank you to all the teacher moderators who came out time and time again.  Mrs. Sawicki, Ms. Hoffman, Ms. Hebert, and a special thank you to Ms. McNamara.  The girls appreciate the time you gave, in order for them to play.   A big thank you to our score keepers, please see Mrs. Presello for community service hrs.

Coaches Colucci, Thomson, Naicker and Presello are very proud of you.  Keep working hard, most importantly keep a positive attitude, never give up.  Your attitudes are your greatest gift.
Assumption 3 Brennan 1

In junior girl’s volleyball news, our Purple Raiders took on the Brennan Cardinals in quarter-final play last night.  After a slow start, losing the first game, our girls rallied back to take the next three games and the match-20-25, 25-10, 25-16, 25-20.  With serving dominance from Anna Hu and Kaitlyn Mayers, the hitting clinic put on by Emma Rothera, defensive digs from Lorraine Yuen and the blocking/attacking combination from Lucy Novak all stemming from the new and improved Aleczia Habash’s sets, it was clear that our Raider girls are peaking at the right time.

Special shout out to our good luck charm Dilraj Gill for taking on an important role where she was able to demonstrate her knowledge and courage to make such important decisions that have such an impact on the game.

The girls will take on the Essex Red Raiders in the Semi-Finals, at Essex on Thursday, February 13 at 5:00.  Come out and show your support.
Assumption 0 Essex 3
25-12, 25-18, 25-17
Congrats to all the girls on a wonderful season!

Victoria Cope picture in top row , second from the right!!!

2015 BGSU Women's Soccer Signees

Victoria Cope
Cope, who hails from Windsor, Ontario, is wrapping up her fourth year at Assumption College Catholic High School where she was a member of the cross country, track & field and volleyball teams. A four-year team captain in volleyball, Cope was twice tabbed the Team MVP in 2013-14 and 2012-13, while she also was awarded the Coach's Award in cross country in 2013-14. A member of the Eastside Kickers Club Team, Cope lead her team to a first-place finish at the 2014 Crossroads of America College Showcase event in April, allowing only one goal for the entire tournament. Prior to that, Cope posted a shutout weekend and led her team to a first-place finish in the top flight of the 2014 Umbro Top Rated College Showcase event in May. Cope posted a 13-2-1 record overall and allowed only eight goals over 16 matches, a league best, to guide her team to a second-place overall finish in the OYSL. The MVP in the Ontario Summer Games in 2012, Cope's squad finished as Silver Medalists at the Ontario Summer Games and was also 2012 Ontario Cup Finalists.

Intending to study Art History at BGSU, Cope has received Honors with Distinction for each of the last three years 2011-2014 and is set to receive that recognition once again in her senior  year.

"Victoria is a tremendous athlete with good hands and shot stopping abilities. Her tool set is different than that of our current three goal keepers which will make this role even more competitive."

Tuesday, 3 February 2015

The Assumption community would like to congratulate Victoria Cope on her commitment to Bowling Green University. You can follow her @BGAthletics

She would like to thank her family, administration, the Assumption family, and Mrs. Presello for all thier support!!
